Instalação artística para a Estação de São Bento. Artistic installation for the São Bento StationAuthor: Isabel Barbas Project manager: Cooperativa Árvore Producer: Outrosmercadus
Projecto ALUMIA – celebração internacional dos 20 anos de Património Mundial do Centro Histórico do Porto.
It is an installation that relates to the cosmopolitan public space in which it is located. It alludes to movement and travel associated with the São Bento Station. Wheels illuminate through the reflection of light bulbs of the urban space (flashes, headlights, etc.) in the reflective bands of the “signal modules of works in the public space”. Seven circles of fluorescent color celebrate the Hundred Years of the Station. It consists of 3 wheels of mirrored center that position themselves to a level of direct interaction with the public: they revolve and reflect the surroundings creating "blurred images". In the same plane, at a higher level, four Static Wheels with LEDs are positioned. The composition refers to the passing movement. It is intended to be a catalyst for the attention and involvement of the public. The act of participating - whether in looking from different angles or through the activation of the movement of the pieces - promotes a critical attitude of complementarities that enriches the installation. It is an installation that does not establish direct relations with the volumetric of the building, but establishes with geometries, details and ideas: "Art nouveau" circular motifs of the interior tiles, train wheels, concepts of movement and travel (in space and time).
